- A very common convention of a movie trailer is the use off inter titles, these are used to give the audience knowledge of the movie details like release date or the narrative of the story. This is evident at 01:06 in this trailer, it is used in this trailer to inform the target audience when the film is released. Due to releasing the release date, the media institution most likely chose to have a simultaneous release so the media institutions don't have to create multiple trailers for the same sequence of footage.
- Another major common convention if the use of the soundtrack, which uses synergy to promote the film product. Furthermore, the use of the soundtrack allows the audience to get interested about both products, also the media institutions can successfully time transitions with the film plot for instance at 1.09 in the trailer, every time a drum beat is heard the movie fades to black and a new different scene is seen as soon as the beat fades.
- The movie trailer will try and suggest character development which is very common as that is a main cause of why the target audience will go see the movie, it is seen throughout this trailer the main characters like Raven, Hank, Professor X etc are portrayed in certain ways to create a representation of their character.
- This movie trailer utilises short clips of the final product to produce a full length trailer, this keeps the target audience in suspense as the plot isn't revealed.
- If it's a franchise then the trailer will feature more uncommon characters as it will hook new fans
- The movie trailer nearly always uses transitions to make the transition between short clips smoother.
- On every professional trailer a MPAA audience green/red screen which is evident at the start of the movie trailer.
- At the end of the trailer the institutional details with logos of the production and distribution companies in this case its Marvel, and Disney Studios.
- If a movie has a higher age certification or age rating, then it's common to have the age restriction on the trailer to inform the target audience.
- Normally on most trailers, the actor's names will appear on the trailer to promote the movie. However, in this case do the massive a star cast due to being a blockbuster, the cast list is far too big to list so as a compromise the production company have instead shown the characters so the target audience know they are in the movie.
- To keep the audience hooked the movie trailer has a wide variety of mise en scene as it is unique to the movie and isn't boring as it isn't repeating the same location/ characters.
- In this trailer a massive amount of shot types and camera shots are used to create a representation, this is seen with the antagonist in this movie trailer as a low angle shot is seen when the villain is first introduced to the audience to give a sudden portrayal of being powerful this is evident at 00:51. This is further shown at 01:02 because is character has a massive body in comparison to the hero so it gives a positive representation of being strong, which is a common convention that the villain seems stronger than the hero.
- Due to the genre of this movie being sci fi/ action the production team decided on using non diegetic sounds of the piano tune when is heard at the start of the movie trailer.
- At 02:08 a turn line is used where the music drops out for a single line of dialogue in this case it's "We'll take everything from them" which is said by a key antagonist. This puts emphasis on the single line which creates suspense for the target audience and it occurs at 00:40 with the same character which is very important as it's key for the story line.
- From the start of the trailer to 00:58 there is a crescendo of a drum beat which builds the dramatic tension of the movie trailer, this is called the rise. This also uses hits to create the drum beats which are used to create a sense of drama.
- At 02:28 a button is used by the institution which makes the audience laugh and get more excited as it features a iconic character of the franchise. In this case the button was a joke after the movie title was shown.
- Due to the movie being a blockbuster the institution wants to give enough information to get the target audience hooked, however doesn't want to give too much away, this is evident in this trailer as the audience are left with so many questions about the movie which makes them go see it. This is called enigma narrative.

Setting up camera and tripod.
Setting up the camera.
1. We had to extend the legs of the tripod and secure the legs in place by locking the into place.
2. From here we opened the extended central column snd braces so the tripod was up straight and could be used to film.
3. The attach the camera we had to pull the quick release platen and attach the pattern to the camera.
4. We then turned the camera on and opened the lens cover by flicking the switch.
5. To raise the camera and secure it in place we had to adjust the crank handle and twist it to lock it into place.
6.While filming the knife throw scene we used the pan handle to whip the camera across during the knife throw so it tracks whats happening.
7. We tested using the slide tilt option on the camera which produces a canted angle if we needed one.
First task was to get a medium close up shot of character 2 without the knife in them.
Next we got a mid shot of a whip pan from character 1 to an empty space.
Then we got a mid shot of a whip pan from character 1 to character 2.
Then we did an over shoulder shot of character 1.

Summer Homework.
Blockbuster Film: The Dark Knight
Poster Anaylsis ( https://www.thinglink.com/scene/799966721279524864 )
The Dark Knight Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXeTwQWrcwY
Camera-
Establishing shot of a high rise in China at night.
The camera shots are short clips which are to create suspense to the target audience.
A panning and tilting shots are seen giving an insight into the location which is used to set the scene and give the audience some information about the story.
Shot reverse shots are evident during short conversations between two main characters, the characters just got introduced so the camera shot changes when their characters names were said.
The scenes with the Joker and Batman feature fade ins and fade outs which build suspense to give the cinematic vibe to the target audience.
Camera work is IMAX as it features more frames per second which gives the viewing experience a more cinematic flow for the consumer.
The length of the clips vary as the characters within the scene change, the clips with the protagonist and antagonist get more screen time, in comparison to scenes with just supporting characters.
A lot of medium close ups and close ups are evident when the camera is aimed at the joker as the audience get to see his attire and makeup which is done in a way it makes the audience want to know his backstory and his story in the actual narrative. This is because the media institutions didn't give too much away so they made the antagonist as mysterious as possible which makes the audience needing to see the movie.
Whereas the consumers have seen batman in the previous film in the franchise, so most of his shots are long/meduim shots so the scenery is visible which foreshadows the narrative.
Sound-
Throughout the whole trailer a composition of the soundtrack composed by the famous Hans Zimmer, is heard, this is done because Hans Zimmer is well educated in composing pieces of music which create tension and suspense, he has worked closely with main projects like Modern Warfare 2, Inception etc. This allows the audience to gain interest as the music tempo is fitting to what is seen in the trailer.
As well as the non diegetic sound of the soundtrack, diegetic is also featured in the trailer due to characters having dialogue and things in the scene which make sounds in the trailer, eg an explosion of a building.
Mise en scene-
The overall theme of the movie trailer is portrayed as a dark superhero movie as the lighting used is darker than other typical superhero movies. The protagonist and antagonist get the most screen time so it shows their importance and relevance to the story. The locations during the trailer keep changing which is done to appeal to the target audience because it keeps the viewing experience fresh and allows the audience to watch the trailer over and over again as there is enough information in the trailer to keep the audience interested and allows them to learn something new every time they watch the trailer, without the trailer feeling packed with information which makes the experience unpleasant. As the action scenes get more recurring the tempo of the music becomes faster, the use of explosions and loud noise increase, and the length of the scenes vary to not give too much away but still inform the audience about what narrative is going to be in the product.
Due to being an action movie/ superhero movie, the movie features alot of fighting an action scenes, however, the trailer doesn't show them, it more or less suggests it through the tempo of the music and the start of the fight so the antagonist gate crashing a party and both the hero and villain in a showdown staring each other down.

Camera-
At the start of the trailer it has a close up of the main actor in the movie, Michael Caine, this is camera then cuts to a long shot of a white vehicle. The camera then zooms in towards the car and then shows a short clip of three mini's , then hard cuts back to the previous van and the fast pace zoom continues to get closer to the van which suggests something is going to happen due to the tension in the target audience building up. Then the camera changes to a long shot over looking the van.
The camera then does a tracking shot of the wheels of the well recognised bus. Then tracks the bus from a aerial view , long distance.
A medium shot of the character is then shown to appeal to the target audience as he is seen as a heart throb.
A new scene is of a POV overlooking a traffic jam which jump cuts to show other POV and angles of the traffic jam.
Another tracking shot is evident when the Aston Martin is rolling down the hill to show to the target audience that it's significant.
Towards the end of the trailer, the action scenes start appearing so the pace of the cuts and scene changes are sped up which creates a certain mood which intrigues the target audience.
Then at the end of the trailer, a establishing shot is shown overlooking Italy.
Sound- Through out the trailer, the soundtrack of the movie is played constantly to get the audience into the right patriotic mood due to being a great British movie. While the music is playing diegetic sounds are also evident. For example, a narrative is being told by the main actor about the general gist of the movie and the plot, and explosions to captivate the target audience followed by one of the most iconic catchphrases of the whole movie. Even though the soundtrack is placed constantly, the volume levels change when the action scenes start happening so it adds to the atmosphere by increasing the volume.
Mise en scene-
Throughout alot of this trailer, the union jack flag is evident so it's trying to set up a patriotic vibe for the target audience. The main actor Michael Caine steals the spotlight as he is the highest paid actor of the movie followed by Noel Coward.
A car chase scene is evident towards the end of the trailer which features three iconic brands of car, with iconic colours as they are the colours of the union jack. Overall the light used is natural light as this movie is a captivating feel good movie as it's all about patriotism. Due to the era when the movie was released, the institution are trying to get the theme of patriotism by making most of the main characters on the protagonist's side White English males. Furtermore, no female characters are seen as strong and independent, they are seen more as pretty objects which are to look attractive and be protected by the male. This is seen through the seen with Michael Caine in a room full of half naked women, this portrays him as a ladies man.
